As writers, we are impacted by a wide range of legislative initiatives. Some are narrowly focused on copyright, small business tax provisions, freedom of information, intellectual property rights, funding for the arts, media regulations, and the like. Some are more broadly relevant to health and welfare, the economy, education, globalization, monopoly control, and war.
All set the climate within which writers struggle to make a livelihood.
Hence legislation is an important arena in which to defend writers' rights and economic interests, in concert with other writers' organizations, other unions, and other organizations representing working people.
